Applying the latest DATABASE GROUP PTFs for i5/OS V6R1 may temporarily prevent Altova MapForce from successfully establishing the ODBC connection to the iSeries database.
If you have applied DATABASE GROUP PTFs for i5/OS and are having problems establishing the ODBC connection from Altova MapForce to your System i database, then you may be affected by this problem.
You can check whether you are affected by this problem by checking for the existence of the *FILE (LF) SCHEMATA in library QSYS2. If it is missing, then you may be affected by this problem.
In our experience so far, the file QSYS2/SCHEMATA is re-created automatically, although it is not yet clear what action or process triggers this.
- an attempt to access the file (by, for example, attempting to connect with MapForce) may trigger the re-creation of the file
- it may be recovered by routine database maintenance/recovery processes
- it may be necessary to re-IPL the machine
If you are affected by this problem, our best advice at present is to try the following:
- wait and retry the request later
- re-IPL the machine, wait and retry the request
This issue has been reported to IBM and any further updates shall be posted.
Note: If you are having problems establishing the ODBC connection to your System i database from Altova MapForce but it does not match this description, then please also refer to the following technical note: ALERT: Altova MapForce will NOT work with certain IBM System i Access for Windows service level
